Thoughts on Technology

A few years ago I thought I was really up on all things technological. I got a home computer not long after I got one at work, and quickly embraced everything from music downloads to digital photography. I quickly filled up more than one hard drive with pictures and music. I don't know how I managed to get left behind so quickly. That is the reason I was so excited to join in with Learning 2.0. Hopefully it will help to bring me back up-to-date with what's going on today in the digital world. Now the old itch to upgrade my old Dell at home has hit with a vengeance. It amazes me how quickly the storage space goes, and now I worry about losing those precious pictures and tunes. I'm on the edge of figuring out when the right time is to upgrade--I don't want my old clunker to crash like mine at work did. That was unbelievably traumatic. It felt like part of me was just lost for quite awhile. Anyway, I hope I can keep up with the pace of these exercises. I have had problems accessing everything from home, and have little free time at work to devote to really exploring the way we should. I need to do more work with Flickr and we are already on to the next week. ACK!

For all of those who have heard me talk about how much I love Auburn and Auburn football traditions in particular, this is the famous Toomer's Corner after a football victory party! Every time Auburn wins thousands of folks show up with all the toilet paper they can carry and "decorate" the main campus entrance across from Toomer's drugstore which has been there since the 30's. A bit on the redneck side, I'll concede that, but don't knock it if you've never experienced it. WAR EAGLE! (Can you tell I'm ready for football season to start??)

Habits bad and good

On pondering the 7 1/2 Habits my strengths and weaknesses were very apparent. The hardest habit for me would be "Begin with the end in mind". I am not by nature a goal-oriented person, more of a reactor than a planner. This might seem strange given that my job forces me to be otherwise. Most of my longtime friends find it very odd that I ended up doing accounting work. I guess I suppress my other side pretty well! The easiest habit for me is "Play". 'Nuff said about that. I am really enjoying reading everyone's blogs. I'm having fun guessing who is who, sometimes with success and sometimes you guys are a total mystery, albeit a great one. I'd love to meet the poster of the Blog song, though. We have that song plagarism thing in common. Weird Al has nothing on you, whoever you are! Loved it.

Getting started

As a frustrated English major "stuck" in a regimented business setting, I am looking forward to letting my pent-up creativity flow on this blog. And as a former teacher (many many moons ago) I see great value in the lifelong learning concept. I am, though, sadly lacking in the technical fundamentals of blogging, so bear with me as I learn my way along with the rest of you!
